Author Q&A with Jaydee Lynn

Q:  What inspired you to write a series about frost, fire, and sky?

Honestly, it all started as a few daydreams and scribbled notes that kept growing. Over time, those little ideas turned into whole realms with their own voices and rules—and characters who started to feel real to me.

It took me years and numerous rewrites. Honestly, every chapter underwent what felt like a hundred revisions before I was comfortable sharing Daughter of Fire beyond my friends and family.

Letting go was hard. I kept wondering if my story was truly ready—if anyone else would enjoy it, and if I had the courage to face whatever feedback might come. One day I finally told my husband, “If I keep rewriting book one forever, I’ll never move on and give the other characters and realms a chance to breathe.”

It was time to let go—not just of Daughter of Fire, but of the fear that came with it. The rough drafts of books two and three were already waiting on my computer, their voices growing louder, asking to be heard.

That’s when I knew it was time to release this story and begin the next one.

Daughter of Fire has a life of her own now—and I’ve finally set her free.

Q: Can you remember the moment the story first appeared in your imagination?

It began with a haunting image: a woman in a frigid land, gazing through a mirror at another world, powerless to alter its deteriorating conditions. That scene stayed with me until I finally began writing it down, and everything else unfolded from there.

Q: What do you love most about writing fantasy?

A: Fantasy lets me explore real emotions in extraordinary ways. Magic is simply another language for feelings we all share—grief, courage, transformation, and hope.

Q: Are your characters based on real people?

A: Not directly, but they’re shaped by bits of real emotion—something I’ve seen, felt, or imagined. They usually end up teaching me more than I teach them.

Q: Which character feels closest to you?

A: Melantha, for her stubborn loyalty and sense of duty. But I also relate to Vivica’s quiet strength and her unfailing belief in love and commitment.

Q: What do you hope readers feel when they finish your book?

A: You know that feeling after a storm? Everything's different, but still pretty and bright. I want readers to walk away believing love can survive even the darkest moments.

Q: What’s next for the series?

Following Daughter of Frost and Daughter of Sky, the story unfolds, revealing the other realms and the strength that emerges when all three daughters unite to protect the realms.
